After the Sun Sets
We walked into the cool breeze of evening
hoping the chilly breeze would eradicate
the numbness and grief.
On our way home we remembered
your smile and warmth.
We remembered your sense of humor,
your generosity,
and how you loved helping others.
For days we walked through a haze
of disbelief, shock and pain.
The fourth day
we swallowed our grief,
dried our tears
and straightened our spines.
We existed in quiet dignity.
After all--our wailing had not disturbed
the silence of precious life slipping away.
This poem is dedicated to my precious son who passed away October 5th, 2020. I miss him so much.

DeleteOh Nell’s, so hard for a mom to bear. I am sure there are very hard days you face but I know you lean on the Lord, exchanging your strength for His. Times when you indeed straighten your spine but seem to bleed inside. May the Lord comfort you and the family as only He can do. Saying a special prayer for you today ๐ค๐๐๐๐๐

ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It is the hardest thing I have ever had to face. When a child passes, you never get over it, but with God’s help you do get through it. I miss him every day. Thank you for your kind words. Prayers are always appreciated. Blessings to you, Victor.
