Years have stretched
and gone since these
hallowed halls were trodden.
Each future was planned
contingent on circumstances
that dictated the outcome.
No one ever dreamed that
one day doors would close,
lights would dim forever,
locks would click, and the
building would stand forlorn.
I imagine standing in the
vestibule, hearing faint
sounds of laughter and
mischief.
Time passes, life moves
on, but love and a special
bond brings us back time
and again to this place
where we grew, shared
dreams and hoped for the
future. Alas, we must
admit that we too have
changed.
We come together in
reunion, those feelings
shared so long ago come
in a rush to remind us—
some things never change,
but nebulous shadows of youth fade
as the gate of time
swings shut on vibrant
memories.
Oh, Nells, your words here so spoke to my heart! The high school I attended is now closed, too, and will likely face demolition in the near future. Our class will gather for our 45th reunion this June - I'm sure there will be many tears as well as laughter.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try to share this with our high school Facebook feed.
Blessings, my friend!
Oh, praise the Lord. I’m glad my work has touched your heart. You lift me up. I am so glad to have met you on the air ways. Thank you and blessings to you, Dear one.
DeleteTimes change. Circumstances change. Appearances change, but what a joy to rediscover childhood friends and discover strong bonds in Christ!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes! It is a a great treat to do just that, Mary. Thanks for stopping by
DeleteI have never been back into the high school I attended, or a class reunion much to my regret. Now that we live stateside again I would like to make a reunion before God calls me home.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Betty, for stopping by and leaving a comment. I sincerely hope you get to reconnect with some of your high school friends, blessings to you.
ReplyDeleteOh this was so touching. I felt a little sad, but as you say, 'life goes on.' It is a cycle. It's good to know that even though these earthly buildings and times come to an end...that life never ends when we are a child of God! Amen. It is beautiful Nells...just like you!
ReplyDeleteOh, Marla, thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. It is nice to know that my work touched your heart. God has been so good to me. He has blessed us both so generously. Thanks for your kind words too. God bless you, Marla.
