The Last Race

  1. When I was a young mother, I used to drag race at a track in Huntsville, Alabama,  I have to admit that I loved the thrill of it all.  Something seemed to change gears in me as I changed the gears of the car.  The focus was on the track and knowing exactly when to shift gears.  At the speed I was traveling, I could not worry about the car running next to me, to do so could have been fatal.  I was top eliminator every week, and I was quite sure that nothing could ever be as exciting as that feeling.  But, something happened.  I was just out of the starting gate and I saw, in my peripheral vision, a child running toward the track.  That child was mine!
I stopped my car in the middle of the track.  It was then that I realized, my baby could have never reached the track, because the fence guarding the spectators was too high.  I sat there until I could compose myself and slowly drove my car car off the tracks.

Something happened to me that day, I lost the race, but something greater took place - I grew up in that moment, and I knew then my racing days were over.  I was so thankful that my daughter was unharmed.  She had been running to the fence to see the race better.

Years later when I gave my life to God. I looked back at that day  with no regrets, and I realized that something more wonderful and exciting had certainly taken place in my life.  Living a life of service and working for the Father has been a most exciting journey.   I belonged to the Lord long before I knew it, and He had always watched over me.  Thank you, Jesus

Thought for the Day:  Psalm 121:8 - The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

  1. Amen! You belong! Me too. What a family! Thanks, Nellie.

  2. Thanks for stopping by and your lovely comment..

  3. Wow, Nells, such a powerful story! With you, I can say that "I belonged to the Lord long before I knew it . . ." I can't begin to tell of all the times He has intervened in my life, and placed me on the right path.
    Blessings, my friend!

  4. Thank you, Martha. We really do worship an awesome God.

  5. Thanks for sharing your heart with us, and a little bit of motherhood. Nice share, Nellie!

  6. Thank you so much, Shira, for stopping by. 😊❤️

  7. Love, love this testimony Nells. A race car driver, every man dream and I guess some women's too. But then again, I wanted y own motorcycle when we use to ride. I still love to ride even though we don't have a bike anymore. At 72 and my health I don't think my doctors would agree it was ok for me to ride or my husbands. Now you are in the ultimate race, a journey of faith is the best and we have already won this one.

    1. Thank you so very much for stopping by and lending your refreshing words. I totally agree that we are definitely in the ultimate race - the one of great faith. Thank you again.
